Why Employee Wellness is Important

Although evidence abounds as to the efficacy of corporate wellness programs, many employers continue to question whether an employee wellness intervention will truly offer any tangible return on investment.

Your most important asset - your people

Your most important and often most costly asset in the business is your workforce, or human capital. Their emotional and physical wellness forms the foundation of your activities and directly impacts your profitability and image.

Ensuring this foundation is stable through facilitating the optimal functioning of your team, your organization is better positioned to achieve long-term business success.

A changing world

In the last 50 years the world has changed dramatically. Markets and customers demand more in less time. We live and work in an 'always on' society where competition is ruthless. No business can afford to fall behind.

This increase in the pace of our living and working environment has resulted in employees who have become accustomed to taking shortcuts in the management of their health and wellbeing. This has resulted in a distinct increase in absenteeism, job-hopping and low morale which in turn impacts an organizations productivity and image to its customers.

A new generation

To add to the complexity of the modern work-place, companies are now also faced with the integration of up to three generations. Each generation, influenced by a starkly different upbringing and socio-political environment, works according to diverse values.

Generation Y, the youngest generation to be found in the workplace at present, is among other things, motivated by a 'work-life balance'. They see health and wellness as of distinct importance and are less inclined to work the long hours typical of their predecessors. Realizing this and working with this generation, will again result in a positive impact for organizations.

The solution - an individualized approach

Individualized wellness programs that are customized by taking into account the organizational culture and objectives, provide a measurable ROI for those employers who realize the benefits of prioritizing a happy workforce.
